About Canoo

About Canoo

Canoo’s mission is to bring EVs to Everyone and build a world-class team to deploy this sustainable mobility revolution. We have developed breakthrough electric vehicles that are reinventing the automotive landscape with pioneering technologies, award-winning designs, and a unique business model that spans all owners in the full lifecycle of the vehicle. Canoo is starting production in 2022 and is distinguished by its pioneering and experienced team of technologists, engineers, and designers. With offices around the country, the company is scaling quickly and seeking candidates who love to challenge themselves, are motivated by purpose, and possess a strong desire to get things done.

The “Canoo Way”

Canoo’s success is the direct result of our disciplined application of our core operating principles and drills, which are based on three main principles: Think 80/20 (“Important versus less important”), Act 30/30 (“Reduce waste and increase output”), and Live 90/10 (“We have each other’s back”). We hire based on “MET” - Mindset, Equipment and willingness to Train - and seek individuals that take accountability and deliver results while being Humble, Hungry to succeed, and Hunting for opportunities to win. We train our team to engage with each other by modulating between their intellect (iQ) and emotional intelligence (eQ), applying Facts, Finesse, and Force when they communicate. The principles and drills of the CANOO Way have been fundamental to our success, our ability to grow, continuously improve, innovate and are at the core of our day-to-day operations.

Overview

Reliability Engineering is responsible for setting the component, system, and vehicle level reliability goals that each engineering team is designing to and provides cross-functional technical guidance to make sure we achieve those goals. In this role you will interpret what reliability means to our customers, and translate that into actionable and testable requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in recruiting activities for exponential department growth and mature existing engineering team members and provide guidance to new in-coming staff members
  • Manage direct reports of Reliability Engineers and balance workflows
  • Define system & component level reliability requirements and targets for our vehicles and disseminate them into requirements for subsystems
  • Determine how to validate reliability requirements using test plans, such as DVP&R’s, for test execution as well as simulation and analysis methods
  • Provide guidance on test sample size requirements and durations for reliability testing using lifetime models and reliability statistics
  • Serve as a technical expert to the design engineering community on Design for Reliability and Influence design decisions and trade-offs for new product designs by applying reliability analysis to uncover potential risks and opportunities early in the design process
  • Lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis process (DFMEA) for several vehicle systems to capture the reliability performance risks and identify the appropriate risk mitigation activities
  • Use reliability targets, risk information from DFMEAs, and reliability physics of failure to work with validation engineers in developing virtual and physical test plans to prove the designs and demonstrate the required reliability performance
  • Facilitate failure analysis investigations to understand root cause and drive resolution of failures occurring during product development
  • After product launch, research unique field failure mechanisms to build more robust validation plans and influence design choices, and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement
  • Create and automate KPI’s in order to report out weekly real-time test progress and identify areas of risk of reliability objectives
