Overview

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer – Inverter is responsible for design, analysis, development, validation and troubleshooting of traction inverter components and assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, analyze and test inverters for electric vehicle traction drives.
  • Specify and size power stage components, such as power modules, dc link capacitors, filters, busbars, etc., for traction inverter.
  • Design and bring-up PCBA for control, sensing, power supply and gate driver in high power converters.
  • Develop models of inverter components and their control methods to understand electrical and thermal stress levels.
  • Analyze component stresses in different operation modes to provide guidance to size components, design experiments and root-cause lab and field failures.
  • Design and conduct validation tests to verify component stress and design margin, and to verify inverter functionalities and performance.
  • Integrate inverter/motor for drive unit performance validation.
  • Conduct EMI/EMC analysis and test for inverter performance and compliance.
  • Develop and implement ISO 26262 methodologies to drive hardware design to meet ASIL goals.
  • Review designs and validation results with the team.

Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills and good judgement in task-prioritization.
  • Minimum requires M.Sc. degree with 4 years industry experience or Ph.D. degree with 2 years industry experience, in the field of power electronics.
  • Experience with developing high voltage power converters, preferably >100 kW traction inverter for 400 V or 800 V battery electrical vehicles.
  • Good understanding of Si or SiC or GaN power semiconductor characteristics and their gate driver designs.
  • Experience determining electrical and thermal stress of power electronics components.
  • Good understanding of pulse width modulation method.
  • Experience simulating circuit and physics models, using tools such as PLECS, Simulink, COMSOL, ANSYS.
  • Proficiency with programming, such as Python or Matlab, for data processing.
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, programmable power supplies, function generators, power analyzers, and electronic loads.
  • Experience with digital control implementations for three phase power converters is preferred.
  • Knowledge of three phase permanent magnet motor control is preferred.
