Overview

The Senior Power Electronics Test Engineer – Inverter is responsible for validation, analysis and troubleshooting of traction inverter components and assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate inverter/motor for drive unit performance validation.
  • Analyze component stresses in different operation modes to provide guidance to size components, design experiments and root-cause lab and field failures.
  • Design, build, maintain, and operate reusable electrical / thermal test systems for high power traction inverter development.
  • Design and build instrumentation for high power traction inverter with various sensors, probes, and data acquisition tools.
  • Develop standard test procedures and test plans based on inverter specifications and industry standard, such as efficiency test, EMI/EMC tests.
  • Work with dyno, inductive load, thermal chamber based on different test requirements.
  • Schedule and execute test plans independently or collaborate with related test/validation/design engineers/project managers.
  • Post-process test data with MATLAB, Excel, Mathcad. Write comprehensive test report covers all related information such as detailed information about equipment, test setup, test procedure and results plot.
  • Review test results with team members, summarize known conclusion and unknow issue, propose next steps.
  • Document and track components, equipment, and test articles for Inverter group, maintain safe and tidy lab environment follow protocols.
  • Understand industry standard and feed related information back to design engineer in different team from product design perspective.
  • Source equipment and work with vendors to communicate requirements and ensure proper implementation.
  • Maintain equipment usability, keep lab supplies available, such as coolant, test tips, batteries, soldering related accessories.

Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills and good judgement in task-prioritization.
  • Minimum requires M.Sc. degree with 2 years industry experience in the field of power electronics.
  • Experience with developing high voltage power converters.
  • Experience determining electrical and thermal stress of power electronics components.
  • Good understanding on data acquisition and signal processing, such as noise cancellation, aperture error, filters.
  • Proficiency with programming, such as Python or MATLAB, for data processing.
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, programmable power supplies, function generators, power analyzers, DAQ, and electronic loads.
  • Experience with digital control implementations for three phase power converters is preferred.
  • Experience with dyno setup, control and test is preferred.
  • Experience with LabView is preferred.
  • Knowledge of three phase permanent magnet motor control is preferred.
