Overview

The BMS Electrical Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the team of hardware design engineers to successfully deliver the Battery Management System to the vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the BMS design team to deliver existing products on time and under budget.
  • Lead new product development for next gen platforms
  • Generate and execute design processes that will grow with the company and ensure an appropriate level of engineering expertise is applied to each product
  • Work with program team and upper management to deliver status reports to the rest of the organization
  • Engage in continuous improvement practices with team
  • Apply innovative methods to improve performance and profitability
  • Guide and grow the career of team members through mentorship, performance reviews, and informal feedback.
  • Provide project scope, resource estimation and schedules to align with overall company goals.
  • Oversee all technical analysis (Worst Case Analysis, Circuit Simulations, DFMEA, Functional Safety Analysis, FMEDA)
  • Responsible for design decisions and tradeoff studies to ensure the optimal balance of performance and value
  • Approve technical specification which shall guide and glue together HW and SW requirements maintaining linkages to the system requirements.
  • Work with all engineering disciplines to ensure final product meets all technical and commercial requirements.
  • Work with commercial teams (Programs, Supply Chain) to ensure cost targets and schedules are met.
  • Work with all stakeholders to integrate final design in vehicle or subsystem
  • Work with test and validation team to verify functional operation to technical specification
  • Assist in the development of detailed DVP&R plans, including statistical confidence intervals
  • Ensure all product issues are identified, logged, tracked, and resolved during each testing phase
  • Good communication with the rest of the organization when issues/failures aris
  • First-hand experience on development and validation of electronic components and assemblies from prototype into production scenarios
  •  Strong relationship and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage at the executive level.
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to engineering excellence and data-driven decision making.
  • Works well on projects on their own as well as with a team, able to clearly communicate ideas.
  • Hands-on interest in developing a real-world product from concept to production stages.

Qualifications

  • BSEE degree or equivalent
  • Experience with automotive electronics development standards
  • Experience with automotive controllers used in safety critical systems
  • Familiarity with CAN, LIN, Ethernet communications and the tools used to interface with them
  • Hands-On experience working with electronic/electric systems and all traditional lab equipment (DMM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzers, Power Supplies)
  • Excellent aptitude in circuit theory and general electronics design practice (communication networks, SMPS, Analog and Digital design)
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Experience in product development from concept and architecture to qualification and launch
  • Experience in thermal performance and management of electronics assemblies
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in electronics product development
  • Experience managing in a challenging and fast paced global environment.
  • 6+ years in the technology industry. Startup experience is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in leading a technical team
  • 1+ years of automotive product development experience
  • 3+ years developing BMS hardware for a high voltage battery pack

Preferred Qualitfications

  • High voltage training course completion
  • High voltage battery design experience for a transportation application
  • Battery cell electrochemistry understanding
  • Knowledge of battery state of charge/health estimation algorithms
  • Understanding of technical trends in the fields of energy storage (Lithium-Ion Battery), vehicles, battery management, and battery test.
  • Experience in leading advanced engineering projects.
  • Experience with installation, commissioning and field support of high voltage battery systems.
  • Experience with battery management system HIL testing.
  • Experience with battery management practical validation testing.
  • Experience bringing a product from concept to production.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic circuit simulation/ PCB layout
  • Excellent design skills in analog, digital, and power electronics, including noise issues, power handling on PC boards, and isolation
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI design practices and the relevant validation testing
  • Familiarity with power semiconductors, microprocessors, DC-DC power supplies, and communication circuits
  • Familiar with IS26262 development process, and experience of functional safety development and implementation in hardware
  • 5+ years electrical engineering in the automotive industry
