The Vice President, Human Resources will be responsible for shaping, implementing, and operationalizing the HR Operations strategy as directed by the Chief Human Resources Officer. Leading the day-to-day HR operations and managing the HR Operations, Payroll and Engagement teams. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with strong analytical skills and a track record of building strong, high performing teams in a start up environment.


  • Drive the execution of the HR Operations strategy, focusing on HR data, reporting and analytics, compliance and management of the key operational needs of the HR organization, including continuous improvement
  • Define a best-in-class new hire experience and create the systems, tools, and training to scale that vision across the organization. Oversee onboarding and off-boarding strategies implemented by your team
  • Drive a culture around the Canoo Principles
  • Conduct internal investigations and ensure a respectful workplace
  • Define and measure KPIs for effectiveness of the onboarding/off-boarding process
  • Oversee the development of reports from HR systems involving employee data, including but not limited to, performance, pay, turnover, employee engagement, training, skills, and EEO
  • Partner with the to ensure that hiring goals and compensation objectives of Canoo are being met to deliver solutions for human capital challenges and priorities
  • Collaborate with CHRO, Sr. Director of Talent Acquisition & Sr. Director of Total Rewards, HR Operations, and Payroll to implement, improve, modify, and support the HR Operational processes
  • Responsible for process improvement, including evaluating existing systems and procedures, providing recommendations for changes and improvements, and implementing changes
  • Mentor, coach and inspire existing talent capability and create opportunities for career development and mobility
  • Drive and implement low, defect-rate, technology-enabled HR operational processes that drive efficiency for the HR team
  • Oversight for integration of HR systems across the enterprise. Ensure that HR technology is optimized to meet the needs of the business and employees utilizing accurate data from these systems to help advise and drive business decisions
  • Understand key business issues, operate as a strategic partner, and provide forward-thinking counsel to business leadership in areas of organizational development and performance
  • Support strategies that will consider succession planning, career development, and organizational development
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and state employment laws, developing effective policies and programs for employee relations


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or other related field or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources Operations, generalist experience including responsibility for HR Teams
  • Experience with employee relations, internal investigations, and remediation
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical skills
  • Extensive knowledge with local and Federal laws
  • Experience influencing and advising senior leaders on complex employment matters
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of employees and management
  • Comfortable with being fast-paced and flexible as needs and priorities shift and change with a growing business
  • HR experiences in a manufacturing, technology, start-up, or high growth company
  • Captures and promotes the voice and vision of executive leadership in all employee activities
  • Excellent oral, written communications, and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25 percent to other Canoo office locations

Preferred Experience 

  • Bachelor degree with specialization in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Leadership
  • 15 years’ experience working in Human Resources at a Senior Management level
  • Experience working in a start-up environment
  • Passion to change the world by simultaneously bringing electric vehicles to all and improving the environment in a way that has never been done before
