Develop a state-of-the-art battery management system for the high voltage battery of Canoo’s propulsion platform including algorithm and diagnostic development and software implementation. Work in a dynamic collaborative environment and help to bring Canoo’s first production vehicle to market and develop technology for future platforms.


  • Create test plan for on vehicle testing, calibration and development of battery control algorithms and diagnostics for electric vehicle.
  • Support software review and development.
  • Evaluation for release of calibration set for battery management software functions.
  • Ownership of vehicle attributes for battery management and diagnostic functions including target setting, evaluation, and analysis.
  • Support requirements development at vehicle, system, and software levels to refine vehicle behaviors and attributes.
  • Provide feedback and assistance to other systems requiring battery management support including propulsion controls, power conversion controls, battery hardware team and virtual engineering system development.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to support battery system performance testing, software testing and validation.



  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalentand 5+ years of experience
  • Experience with software documentation / calibration guides for battery management software.
  • Experience using Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow for model-based control algorithm development for real time implementation.
  • Familiarity with auto-code generation process based on Matlab / Simulink and with embedded hardware and software design, integration, and testing
  • Experience with on-vehicle testing of high voltage battery systems
  • Hands-on experience with battery state estimation algorithms including state-of-charge estimation, state-of-power, state-of-health, and battery related diagnostics
  • Good electric vehicle systems knowledge: High voltage Battery, Traction Inverter, Electric Motor
  • Good verbal and written communication skills


  • Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalentand 8+ years of experience
  • Experience with testing and development on HIL platforms. 
  • Experience with in-vehicle loggers: Vector, intrepid or similar
  • Experience with software analysis tools: Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, vSignalizer, CANape, JIRA, GIT
  • Experience with log file analysis and root case identification of software issues in vehicle
  • Experience with the development of requirements and requirement management systems like Jama, Doors or Polarion

Travel Requirements

  • Willing to travel for hands-on vehicle testing and validation work
