The Powertrain Lead Design Release Engineer will be responsible for supporting industrialization of the main drive unit into Canoo platforms.  This position is tasked with establishing technical requirements for the Drive Unit by working closely with the vehicle engineering and other cross functional Canoo teams.  The Powertrain Lead Design Release Engineer is the single point interface to the vehicle teams to support hardware integration efforts on each platform.  The position oversees design and release of each component and must have familiarity with current eDrive systems to maintain a level of competitiveness in target setting.


  • Lead design and release efforts for one of Canoo’s drive units
  • Create, design, and review 3D as well as 2D CAD and drawings, oversee GD&T of the entire system.
  • Select and collaborate directly with component suppliers, setting requirements and quality standards.
  • Prepare the DV and PV test plans as well as pre and post test reports.
  • Own critical design reviews at various stages of the program.
  • Manage component MRD’s working with core engineering, purchasing, supply chain and programs teams.
  • Prepare and support RFI/RFQ process and supplier selection.
  • Up to 25% domestic travel


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of powertrain design and validation experience.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and experience completing stack up analyses.
  • Expert in drawing review and high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with presenting results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams
