Overview

The Lead Steering Systems Engineer is responsible for design and release of the steering system and it’s physical and performance envelope.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (80s of the Position) 

  • Be aware of best-in-class steering system designs through benchmarking. Propose designs that meet the intended uses of the vehicle and packaging requirements.
  • Translate vehicle performance targets to component level performance and design requirements.
  • Design of Steering systems for: power assist, tilt and telescope functions, crash worthiness, strength, durability, and packaging in vehicle environment.
  • Work with supplier based on vehicle requirements, design validation testing and deliver the product based on delivery milestones.
  • Work with cross functional team for ergonomics, packaging, safety & crash testing, supplier quality and manufacturing.
  • Understanding of all related federal and industry requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 6+ years’ experience in steering systems design and release.
  • Deep knowledge of Automotive Steering Systems: Manual and power Steering Columns & Rack EPS.
  • Skills: CATIA, GD&T and drawing release experience, packaging and clash studies, DFMEA/PFMEA, design validation testing and automotive new product launch experience/release process/change process.
  • Design and release engineering experience for steering components at an Automotive OEM or tier 1 supplier.
  • Automotive OEM, EPAS, development.

PreferredExperience  

  • Experience with by-wire technologies.

Travel Requirements

You will be asked to travel to different Canoo sites and testing facilities in the US including winter testing.  Your home office: Torrance Ca, Auburn Hills Mi, Prior Ok, or Bentonville Ar, will determine where and how often you will travel.  Should not exceed 30%.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to lift up to 25 or more pounds, stand, sit, bend/stoop, or operate office equipment or machinery and prolonged periods of computer use..
