As a core member of the Powertrain team, the Lead eDrive Engineer is responsible to bring the current drive unit and advanced concepts to life. This role’s main responsibility is the development and analysis of gears and related components inside of the drive unit.  The Lead eDrive Engineer will report directly to the Powertrain Director and Powertrain VP and work with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, design, quality, test and validation engineers, and the designers. 


Must be willing to work onsite at one of our locations in Michigan, Oklahoma, or Texas.


Responsibilities (80s of the Position) 

  • Lead Design of gearbox and driveline components from concept to production release with a focus gears, bearings, differentials, and structural system analysis.   
  • Work with vehicle integration team and suppliers to develop and analyze the gears based on development targets.  
  • Work with engineers and designers to evaluate and optimize structural and NVH parameters of the system  
  • Provide technical support and analysis of gearsets and bearings for life and stress to a duty cycle and load conditions as well as assess gear design for manufacturability. 
  • Support and liaison with suppliers and manufacturing for component specifications and definition to develop and mature parts from concept to production.  
  • Create component and system level accelerated tests based on vehicle data and vehicle duty cycles. 
  • Responsible for the development, maturity, and quality of components and/or subsystem 2D/3D CAD and technical drawings (CATIA PREFERRED).  
  • Provide technical support and analysis to determine root cause analysis of issues.  
  • Provide professional reports and documentation for the system with information provided by design responsible engineers. 
  • Lead and coordinate meetings with suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and other members to drive outcomes.  
  • Perform research, design, and development of components and subsystems.  
  • Coordinate, lead, and participate in design reviews. 


 Required Experience

  • 10+ years of gear development experience in automotive, aerospace, agriculture or similar.  
  • Bachelor of Science - Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical or higher; or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability. 
  • Expertise in the following areas: System modeling of driveline or transmission systems in respect to bearings, shafts and gears in respect to life and noise.  
  • Knowledge/expertise using system analysis tools such as Romax, MASTA, SABR/Gear or similar. (MASTA PREFERRED) 
  • Working knowledge of how to use duty cycle and durability life curves (SN) of components to determine life. 
  • Advanced knowledge of gear manufacturing process(es) 
  • An understanding of gears and gear analysis including gear macro and microgeometry. 
  • An understanding of gears manufacturing and the impact on gear design. 
  • An understanding of bearings, bearing types, and basic parameters of bearing geometry. 
  • The ability to work independently, and to coach and mentor others. 
  • Experience in one or multiple of the following areas:  Driveline, Transmission, or eAxle Fundamentals, how to interpret technical drawings, GD&T, Tolerance Stacks, gears, bearings, shafts, and housings.  
  • CAD Knowledge, proficiency, and ability to work in 3D and develop/modify 2D drawings. (CATIA PREFERRED). 
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, development, design and/or program launch through multiple launch cycle 
  • Excellent written and communications skills and ability to effectively communicate with global teams. 
  • The ability to work independently, and to lead, coach and mentor others. 
  • Ability to thrive with ambiguity in design direction and conditions 
  • Open and willing to expand your knowledge and capability.   


  • MS Degree or PhD- Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical or higher. 
  • 15 - years of experience. 
  • Experience with full system design (Castings, lubrication, gears, and system analysis) 
  • Working knowledge of automotive software architecture and implementation. 
  • Experience with tools such as Matlab, ABAQUS (or other simulation tools), Polarion, JIRA 
  • Knowledge of types of lubricants, pumps, filters, coolers, electric pumps, heat exchangers, oil filters. and other related devices. 
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.  

 Travel Requirements 

  • Up to 30% travel 
  • International Travel may be required

Salary will be determined based on a number of factors, including but not limited to years of experience, training, skillset, location, etc.  Expected salary range - $13,900 - $136,700
