Job Purpose 


Canoo is looking for a Kafka Cloud Engineer who is interested in shaping, delivering, and supporting our connected vehicle platform. This team member will work directly with product teams and operation teams to transition services into production and ensure the successful deployment and operation of those integrations. The Kafka Cloud Engineer is responsible for managing daily operational activity on our Cloud Kafka Development and Production environment. Remote work is OK. 


Responsibilities (80s of the Position) 

  • Adopt best practices while implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Helm and Kubernetes amongst other tools.
  • Participate in investigations and PoC of new tools and technologies.
  • Lead and design Kafka cloud architecture for Canoo.
  • Serve as a support point of contact for other teams within Canoo for all matters related to Kafka cloud.
  • Create automations and tooling to monitor and respond to any errors/anomalies.
  • Contribute to data driven decision making throughout the engineering team.
  • Help automate and develop tools that ensure the rapid, safe, and high-quality delivery of features.
  • Familiarity with and ability to support the creation and improvements of CI/CD build pipelines and software delivery. 



Required Experience 

  • Understanding of designing and developing architecture for cloud-based applications.
  • Knowledge of developing secure production applications in the cloud.
  • Experience with Kafka tools including KSQL, schema registry, Mirror Maker, RBAC
  • Experience with KSQL, Java, Python, Bash, Go.
  • Experience with Cloud Native platforms and tools including Kafka, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Hashicorp Vault, AWS CLI.
  • Experience with various CI/CD systems and their pipelines, both cloud and on-premises; Jenkins, CircleCI, ArgoCD, GitlabCI.
  • Understanding of implementing infrastructure as code and data platforms best practices.
  • Understanding observability initiatives such as dashboards and alerts using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Datadog.
  • Strong understanding of AWS services offerings: EKS, EC2, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS, Athena, Glue, Redis, Cloudfront, IAM, S3, Glacier, CloudWatch, KMS, DynamoDB
