Overview

As a core member of the Powertrain Team, an eDrive Engineer – Intern is responsible to bring the current drive unit and advanced concepts to life. This role’s main responsibility is to work with the current engineers on the Powertrain and Drive Unit Team.  The eDrive Engineer – Intern will report directly to the powertrain team and work with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, design, quality, test and validation engineers, and the designers.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (80s of the Position) 

  • Assist in variety of projects and work as part of the Powertrain & Drive Unit team.
  • Perform root cause analysis of issues; develop and confirm countermeasures.
  • Assist Powertrain Test team with a variety of test items including but not limited to fixture design, jig design, test procedure creation, and testing.
  • Develop and own components, and actively participate in team/supplier meetings.
  • Support and own CAD/3D Designs, drawings, and part schedules.
    • Investigate and provide countermeasures for component and drive unit related issues.
    • Re-creating problem failures to determine root cause, develop countermeasures and perform confirmation testing

Qualifications

Required Experience 

  • Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week
  • Recent graduate or current student pursuing degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • General understanding of 3D Design, and ability to create designs in CAD (CATIA PREFERRED)
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Skills to create and understand macros in VBA and to handle large data amounts in MS Excel or Matlab
  • Basic technical vehicle knowledge required

PreferredExperience  

 

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience with powertrain and powertrain components (gears, differentials, castings, or automotive components).
  • Experience with Formula SAE, SAE Baja, or similar engineering focused extracurricular activity.
  • Advanced understanding of Motor, Gear, Casting or Powertrain design and development.
  • Valid driver's license

  • 0-5% - No Travel is expected.

Compensation will be determined based on a number of factors, including but not limited to years of experience, training, skillset, location, etc.  Expected hourly range in CA: Bachelors Program $25/hr - Masters Program - $35/hr.
