Overview

 This role establishes vehicle safety performance targets and evaluates vehicle safety attributes and analyzes simulation results and physical test data against internal Canoo safety targets, regulatory safety requirements, and consume safety expectations. You will work collaboratively with internal Design, Test, CAE, and homologation teams to ensure the design of our products meet all safety performance targets.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal cross-functional teams to develop and define safety performance targets and requirements
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction in terms of safety test planning and test preparation & execution
  • Develop and validate performance of components, systems and vehicle level validation activities and communicate results with respective Design Engineering teams and external suppliers
  • Lead post-test performance safety reviews and assist Design Engineering & CAE Teams in root-cause analysis
  • Identify safety concerns and work with Design Engineers to recommend countermeasure corrective actions and develop re-validation test plans to confirm resolution to any safety performance deficiencies
  • Work closely with our Homologation team members to comprehend existing and future safety requirements for current and future vehicle programs
  • Contribute to engineering design reviews for current and future vehicle product development programs
  • Develop strategies and safety roadmaps for vehicle safety performance of our new vehicle programs

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability 
  • 15+ years of automotive experience in Safety products and Testing
  • Quasi-Static & Dynamic Safety tests, including sled testing and full vehicle crash testing
  • Extensive knowledge of all FMVSS, ECE, China, IIHS, USNCAP, EuroNCAP, RCAR Test regulations & protocols
  • Experience in analyzing data using available tools (HyperWorks, DiaDEM)
  • Interpretation of injury assessment values and various Star ratings (US NCAP/Euro NCAP/China NCAP) as well as the IIHS and RCAR rating system
  • Familiar with CAE safety simulation tools and methods
  • Previous work with cross functional teams to drive product development and a demonstrated ability to influence direction of design based on safety test results
  • Understanding of Instrumentation for crash, ATD setup and positioning, and High-Speed Camera videography equipment
  • Ability to travel (up to 30%)

Salary will be determined based on a number of factors, including but not limited to years of experience, training, skillset, location, etc.  Expected salary range in CA – $156,200 - 195,300 annually
